Make It to the Last Round

To achieve any dream, you have to be prepared to go the distance. To be willing to endure any setback along the way, because your eyes are on the finish line. When the punches of life come, you are able to find a way to get back up — to keep going.

Dreams are achieved by those who survive rejection to make it to the finish line.

There is a famous saying that encapsulates all of this: ‘You have to be in it to win it.‘  The phrase itself was coined by the TV presenter Bob Brown, who used it in his broadcasts of the New York Lottery. His phrase transcended the lottery, and became one of the world’s most used phrases. Consequently, it is frequently heard in every creative field. That you have to be there when it matters most, because that is when the dream will happen.

When the bell rings to hand out dreams, will you still be standing?

In this scene from the Oscar-Winning Rocky, the central character has spent his life believing his low-economic background and neighbourhood is not a world where dreams can happen. That dreams are for the people we look up to, but not for us. On the eve of the biggest fight of his life, the doubts creep in again. In this moment of reflection, he realises that what matters most in chasing a dream, is to make to the last round.
