As we navigate the journey of our dream, it can be all too easy to do so at the detriment of our family relationships. We vaguely listen to them, or worse still, we ignore them completely. We are so consumed by the dream that we shut our family out. We think they will not understand. But there is a reason well-known creatives and athletes frequently thank their family in speeches.
The love and support of our family can give us the wings we need to lift us above the obstacles of life.
When the rejections come, our family can say the right thing, offer the right gesture, that lifts us off the floor with a smile. Our family have known us longer than anyone. They already know where we have come from to get this far.
When a family member offers kindness or support, we should always embrace it.
In this talk by the speaker Marc Mero at a US school, he shares his own personal story about his relationship with his mother, and why his life would have been better if he had embraced her support.
